Big things with little cars

Toyota Tuesday: Esquire

Another JDM post coming right up.

This happens to be a 1/30 dealer model (or a color sample) for the 2014 - 2016 Toyota Esquire. The Esquire is one of the Noah family of minivan / MPV from Toyota, sitting alongside the Noah and Voxy. Interestingly, Toyota loves to do this twinning, as seen with the Alphard / Vellfire duo, the more upmarket (and more hideous) pair of minivans that could come to the US and Europe in a Lexus avatar.

Hideous grille aside (it has become worse since), it looks fine, with the proportions working well with the role of the car. Esquire is an acclaimed mile muncher for families, according to one of my friends who rented one for a cross - country drive. It is a familiar sight in Japan, seen plying the streets alongside the much more conspicuous Alphard or Vellfire. The Esquire competes with the likes of Serena, Stepwgn and Delica D:5 for the lions share in a very active market.

The model itself is pretty good, and lives up to the expectations of a dealer model (for example, the rear light cluster is pretty dope IMO). This was a second - hand purchase as a gift for the aforementioned friend of mine, who yearns to buy a 1:1 in the future. However it had significant blemishes that could not be ignored, so it stays with me for the time being.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week ahead!
