A week or so ago I had teased a Concours D’ Modella for a 1:18 scale Maisto GMC Canyon. Later that evening I found out that Maisto also made the Canyons sister truck, the Chevy Colorado. I HAD to have the Colorado as I owned one in real life many moons ago. It arrived in the mail on Friday and I finally got it out for some pics. So let’s begin the reviews!
While I like this model over the Canyon due to personal preference, I can’t help but be let down by the extremely thick paint. At certain angles it almost seems to be runny or rippled. The paint for the fender flares is even thicker and seems like it was applied over the body color. One of the Z71 4X4 stickers is peeling a bit too.
The GMC suffers from similar paint issues but is far less noticeable, and it helps that the fenders are color matched.
Nice details on the dash and gauges. The interior is VERY accurate to the Colorado z71 that I owned surprisingly. The lack of details on the steering wheel is a bit odd though considering this isn’t a work truck.
I can’t really give different scores here since the interior of each truck is exactly the same except for the badge stamped on the steering wheel. There are two differences with these models which I’ll show later but for the most part, they’re the same truck (just like the real life counterparts)
The Colorado features opening doors, hood and tailgate.
The Canyon has the same features except that the tailgate hits on the rear bumper and won’t go down fully. But it does have a sweet bed liner which the Colorado is lacking.
I found the Colorado on eBay for 35.99 USD. Not too pricey honestly but it was the cheapest one available. Any more than 40 dollars is just not worth it.
The Canyon came from a Toys R Us outlet and cost me 20.99 USD. Quite a bit cheaper and if you’re looking for one of these trucks and don’t have a preference, the Canyon is the better bet imo.
At the time of writing, there are only 3 Colorados listed on eBay and they are not nearly as cheap as this red model.
The TRU shop had about 5 more of these on the shelf in different colors. I suspect the Colorado was discontinued and Maisto is making the Canyon now instead. Regardless, it’s not particularly rare.
Pretty similar scores for pretty similar models. I think ~30 is fair as these are pretty average models. They are cheap enough that I wasn’t expecting anything amazing and I’m overall happy with my purchases. Here’s some extra ORAT content. Thanks for looking!
