Big things with little cars

Weekend Wankel: FD RX-7

The 3rd generation RX-7 or FD chassis code RX-7 is in my opinion one of the prettiest cars to come out of the ‘90s. This diecast was given to me by a former co-worker when I worked at the parts counter of a dealership. My co-worker, a technician. Randomly walked up to the parts counter and plopped this thing in front of me and said.

“Here you can have this, it’s just sitting in my tool box”. Then he scurried back to work.

“AH OH, um Thank you, this is really cool” I replied and that’s how I ended up with this one.

Which is cool, this generation RX-7 is quickly becoming a classic. This casting looks great in bright solid red paint and is representative of so many of the 1:1 RX-7s I’ve seen. The only thing that really lets it down is the oddly sized wheels and tires. For someone who grew up playing GT on playstation and love’s ‘90s cars it’s great for my collection.

I really like the interior detail on this one too. Especially the wood shift knob. The diecast is not exactly Tomica level, but I think pretty darn good for the time it was made.
