Welcome to Wheel Swap Madness! Here we have a much-beloved Porsche Outlaw that is taking a break from the paint booth and two rugged Matchbox Work trucks. A classic GMC junkyard mule and a rather narrow Moving van.
Since it’s practically summer here in Vermont this weekend, I started a few coats of primer on the Outlaw. I need to sand down a few areas to make them smooth (front fenders). It seems like a nice time to test some wheels that I picked up for it.
Now, you are probably wondering why the heck that moving van is in this equasion... Well, Matchbox used quite a bit of creative license in the scale with this rig and the axles are insanely short. Perfectly short to match the rear axle on the Outlaw.
The GMC axles are perfect for the front of the Outlaw. I’ve seen others use these same exact wheels for customizing Outlaws. But, I really didn’t want to deal with shortening axles and using epoxy.
The Length of each is absolutely spot-on! Easy wheel swap for sure.
After closer inspection... The Mbx wheels are slightly different. The GMC’s wheels are chrome and the moving truck’s are painted silver. Not too big of a deal, I think I will be painting them both the same shade of silver/gray anyways.
Axle length win.
I have different plans for the GMC. That is going to get some rusty steelies of some sort. But it looks pretty spiffy with sporty rims. The moving truck is going in the parts bin. But it deserved one last time to shine in front of the camera.
