One of the many works in progress on my bench these days. This one differs from what I typically do in the way that it’s a fantasy cast, which I normally don’t touch or create. The reason being is that I’m a point of reference customizer, if I don’t have reference materials then I usually will pass. Not that I’m not creative enough to make them, though I do struggle with ideas at first, it’s just that I usually only make customs for myself and I like to collect realistic/licensed cars. This one is for a good friend though, he didn’t give me any perimeters, 100 percent however I wanted to interpret it. Hot Wheels as done dozens of different themes for this car so it’s going to hard to really stand out.
I’ve started with lots of body modifications. I dropped the chassis in the body about 2mm and created an exaggerated rounded front wheel arch. This necessitated moving the front axle line back about 1mm as well to center the wheel properly. I raised the side rockers by about 1mm to expose the sidepipes. Speaking of exhaust I didn’t care for the jet pipe stinger and deleted it. Moving the the back of the van I cut out the existing rear section and grafted in the rear section from the Astro drag van that includes parachutes and a wheelie bar. Up front I think I’ll add some sort of bumper, it looks like something is missing up there. That’s it for now, still haven’t settled on a theme, stay tuned.
